It’s here, it’s finally there, a new movie.. My last real movie was from Venezuela ‘06. I didn’t had the time to make new movies and after that I was injured and coming back. Cauipe, Brazil is so perfect for me to train and focus on improving and recovering from my injury.

Eindlijk is het zo ver. Mijn eerste echt film na meer dan een jaar. Venezuela ‘06 was de laatse film van mij en vanwege te weinig tijd en daarna een blessure heb ik geen nieuwe films kunnen maken. Ik ben nu in Brazilie, Cauipe (lagoon/meer) en ik kan me hier voor het eerst dit jaar 100% concentreren op het trainen en herstellen. Het gaat telkens beter en daarom de eerste film (hoop dat er nog vele volgen).

Terwijl ik thuis op de bank lig te rusten verschijnt het nieuwe kitesurf magazine op mijn deurmat met ikzelf op de voorkant. Dit is mijn 3e cover en ben daar natuurlijk super blij mee.

Het is inmiddels al meer dan een jaar geleden dat ik voor Nescafe Frappe een TV Commercial heb opgenomen in Griekenland maar afgelopen maandag kreeg ik het dan eindelijk in door de brievenbus; ‘The Making off’. Mijn moeder en mijn oom zijn zo lief geweest hem om te zetten en te uploaden..

KPWT (single elimination) - Top 4 and still running!

Today was the first day of the single elimination and we are almost done. I’m still in the running as the last 4 guys are battling for the 1st place. My first heat was against the Brazilian champion. He is riding awesome and had a great heat. I managed to a lot of power moves. As well regular as switch. In the last minute I managed to do a nice and clean backmobe to wrapped and that was the move which gave me the victory.
Second heat was again Frenchy Jermey Tronet. Normally always ripping and riding powered. This time he had bad luck and crashed his kite, early in the beginning. I still did a nice heat with a triple combo of front mobe to switch slim chance to blind judge 3. I won.
The last heat of the day was against Thomais, cumbuco local and second of Brazil. We had a good heat and I landed all my tricks again, including my 720 kiteloop (off axis). I won.
My girlfriend and teammate Pauline Boussard was on fire today and after winning from Kirsty Jones and Audrey Meyer she ended up 3th in the singles.
I’m still in the running the get a better ranking, the singles aren’t done yet. Tomorrow at 12 o’clock the freestyle will continue. I’m still competing together with Tom Herbert (FRA), Alex Soto (DOM REP.) and Ariel Corniel (DOM REP.).

Vandaag was de eerste dag van het evenement en we zijn gelijk van start gegaan met de singles (1e ronde). We zijn nog niet klaar en ik zit bij de laatste 4, klaar om te strijden voor de 1e plaats.
Mijn eerste heat was tegen de Braziliaanse kampioen. Hij vaart super goed en had een goede heat. Ikzelf had ook een goede heat en lande o.a. een gepowerde Back Mobe to Wrapped en dat gaf me de overwinning.
De 2e heat was tegen de fransman, Jeremie Tronet. Normaal gesproken vaar hij erg sterk en constant maar hij had pech en crashte zijn kite vrij vroeg in de heat. Ik daarin tegen had een super heat met als hoogte punt een triple combo; FrontMobe to Switch Slim Chance to Blind Judge 3. Ik won.
De 3e heat was tegen cumbuco local, Thomias. Hij heeft leren kiten in de afgelopen 3 jaar en vaart super sterk en doet ook alle moves met een lekkere style! Ik pakte mijn 11m2 en was behoorlijk gepowered, het ging lekker en ik lande al mijn tricks. Zowel switch als normaal. Ik won en daarme ben ik sowieso top 5 voor het hele event.
Mijn vriendin en teamgenoot (F-one & SkullCandy), Pauline Boussard, voer ook lekker en na een overwinning op Kirsty Jones en Audrey Meyer eindigde ze op een 3e plaats in de singles!
Morgen gaan we verder en maken we de eerste ronde af. Om 12 uur begint de freestyle. Ik moet mijn eerste heat tegen Tom Herbert (FRA). In de andere finale is er een dominicaanse battle tussen Ariel Corniel (winnaar PKRA Cabarate 2007) en Alex Soto. Als ik win in mijn heat tegen tom moet ik tegen de winnaar van deze heat en als ik verlies moet ik tegen de verliezer.

KPWT Brazil - 4th place in the singles (first round)

Al vroeg in de ochtend waren we op het strand. Het evenement terein was nog helemaal leeg. Ze waren bezig met het wavesurfen en dat gebeurde een paar kilometer downwind.
Rond 13.30 ging de freestyle van start. De eerste heat was Alex Soto tegen Ariel Corniel. Beide kiters zijn onwijs goed en het was een spannende heat. Ariel was echter de betere en won de heat en ging door naar de finale.
Na de finale van de vrouwen was het mijn beurt. Ik moest het opnemen tegen Tom Herbert. Ik besloot om met mijn 11m2 Bandit te gaan omdat de wind aan het afnemen was. Toen de vlag omhoog ging en de heat van start ging nam de wind helaas te veel toe en was ik te gepowered. Ik crashte mijn eerste sprong en mijn 2e was ook niet al te mooi. Toen was ik niet meer geconcentreerd en was het moeilijk om weer in mijn ritme te komen. De laatste 3 minuten ging het weer goed en wist ik terug te komen maar het mocht niet baten. Ik verloor :(.
Direct daarna was de loser final. Ik moest tegen Alex Soto. Omdat mijn kite te groot was ruilde ik hem snel om voor mijn 9m2 Bandit maar dit keer stopte de wind ermee tijdens mijn heat en had ik niet genoeg. Het was een conditie test en ik moest 4 keer over het strand lopen om weer upwind te komen. De heat was close en een aantal riders vertelde me dat ik waarschijnlijk wel gewonnen had maar tijdens de bekendmaking van de resultaten was het helaas niet waar en had ik verloren. Helaas…
Vandaag niet veel geluk gehad met de wind. Ik ben nu 4e in de eerste ronde. Er komt nog een herkansingsmogelijkheid waarin je jezelf terug kan werken in de competitie en omhoog klimmen of een plaats naar beneden vallen. Ik ben in ieder geval in de top 5 en daar ben ik blij mee. Ik hoop alleen nog wel dat ik mijzelf morgen toch nog terug kan vechten en voor het eerst tijdens een world cup op het podium weet te komen.

This morning we arrived early on the beach. The beach was still empty and they where running the wave contest a few kilometers downwind.
At 13:30 they started with the first heat, it was Alex Soto against Ariel Corniel. Two really good riders who are doing sick stuff like kiteloop double handlepasses or KGB pass… Ariel was the strongest and advanced to the final.
After the winners finale of the woman it was my turn. I was out against Tom Herbert from New Caledonia. I took my 11m2 Bandit because the wind dropped a little but when my heat started the wind also started to pick up and I was way overpowered. I didn’t land my first trick and my second was also with a big bud check. Then I wasn’t focused anymore and screwed it up. I lost :(.
Straight after there was the loser final and I was up against Alex Soto. Because my kite was to big I switched for my 9m2 Bandit. When my heat started the wind dropped. I was a little underpowered and with the strong current I couldn’t stay upwind and I needed to walk back over the beach a couple of times. Our heat was really close and some people thought I would win but the judges didn’t. To bad, he is a good rider so it’s not bad to lose against him.
I guess I wasn’t really lucky with the wind today. I ended up 4th in the singles. I need to win 1 heat tomorrow to keep my place and be able to climb after. I hope I can get on stage for the first time. That would be sick!

First of all, sorry for the delay, I should have updated my site a lot earlier. The next 2 days after my previous update I didn’t need to kite because I was all the way up in the doubles and they also did the waves and course race.
The last day of the contest (Sunday) it was my turn again. 9 o’clock skippers meeting and at 10 o’clock the first heat of the day was on! I was in the 4th heat of the day and ??? Da Silva (local guy). I started my heat pretty good with a Slim Chance, Back Mobe and then a 3-1-3. Then I crashed my KGB on the way out and I got pretty stressed. It took myself a minute to get control over myself again but after then it went pretty well and manage to do another switch slim, switch KGB and switch blind judge. I ended my heat with a nice Front Mobe to Blind. I won the heat and I was pretty happy because the level here is so high and the condition where really hard. There wasn’t any flat part and there was just swell without any space in between.
Then I was up against Alex Soto from the Dominican Republic. We where both riding good and he did 2 double passes. He won the heat but I had a nice heat as well landing 6 regular hp’s and 4 switch hp’s. I also did my 720 kiteloop for the first time with my 7.5 bandit.
This was it.. the end of the contest for me and I ended up 4th. I’m pretty happy about the result. I’m only a bit disappointed that I was so close to the stage but just missed it! Better luck next time.

Om te beginnen, sorry voor de late update. De eerste 2 dagen na mijn update hoefde ik niet te kiten dus was er weinig te vermelden.
De laatste dag van het evenement (zondag) was ik weer aan de beurt. De dag begon om 9 uur met de zogenoemde skippersmeeting. Dit is altijd aan het begin van de dag om te vertellen wat de planning is en of er nog bijzonderheden zijn. Altijd belangrijk om bij aanwezig te zijn dus!
Om 10 uur ging de eerste heat van de dag van start en ik zat in heat nummer 4. Toen de 2e heat begon ben ik het water opgegaan om nog even in te varen en op te waren en toen mijn heat begon ontdekte ik dat ik tegen ??? Da Silva (lokale rider) moest. Mijn heat begon goed en ik lande gelijk in het begin een Slim Chance, Back Mobe en daarna een 3-1-3. Toen crashte ik mijn KGB en toen werd ik iets gespannen maar na een minuut verder varen was het weer goed en lukte het me nog om een switch Slim, switch KGB en een switch Blind Judge te landen en vervolgens sloot ik mijn heat af met een front mobe to blind. Het was spannend en close maar ik won de heat en wist daarmee in ieder geval mijn 4e plaats te behouden. Nu was het mijn beurt om terug te vechten en mijn kans te pakken.
De volgende heat was tegen Alex Soto uit de Dominicaanse Republiek. We voeren allebei erg goed maar hij wist 2 dubbele handlepasses te doen tijdens zijn heat en won daarmee de wedstrijd. Ik had nog wel een hele lekkere heat met 6 normale powered hp’s en 4 switch. Ook deed ik mijn 720 kiteloop (off axis) met mijn 7.5m2 Bandit.
Dat was voor mij de laatste World Cup dit jaar en ik ben uit eindelijk 4de ge eindigt. Ik ben erg blij met dit resultaat alleen ik was nu zo dicht bij het podium dat ik er graag op had gestaan. Hopelijk volgende keer meer geluk en sta ik er dan wel op! De rest van de winter wordt dus hard trainen.

After the World Cup, which was in the sea, I was so happy to go back on the lagoon and started to focus on my Front Mobe Pass.. The wind was strong and I was riding my 7.5m2 Bandit. 3rd try I landed it! That was a good feeling! I was so happy! The next day I tried it again and this time on film!

Na de World Cup, die op zee gehouden werd, was ik zo blij weer terug te kunnen gaan naar de lagoon. Mijn goal was de Front Mobe Pass.. De wind was sterk en ik voer met mijn 7.5m2 Bandit. Na de 3rde poging lande ik hem! Dat was een goed gevoel!! De volgende dag probeerde ik het weer. Dit keer op film!

Gisteravond kwam ik aan op Schiphol. Ik werd opgehaald door mijn moeder, vader en mijn broer. Een goede vlucht gehad. Ik vloog met Tap, eerst naar Portugal en daarna naar Nederland. Ik zat in het vliegtuig samen met Alex Caizergues, mede team rider van f-one en ’s werelds snelste kitesurfen tot nu toe! Dit was stom toeval, maar dat zijn ook meestal de leukste momenten.
Ik ben eerder naar huis gegaan omdat ik weer probleem heb met mijn knie. Vorig jaar heb ik mijn voorste kruisband gebroken en heb ik geen operatie gedaan. Dit keer ga ik dit wel doen. De operatie schijnt erg makkelijk te zijn. Het herstel daarentegen duurt lang is hard werken.
De hersteltijd zal zo’n 6 maanden zijn en om mijzelf bezig te houden komt er binnenkort een nieuwe website aan met daarop nieuwe features zoals trick clips. Je kan diverse tricks bekijken, ook in slowmotion om daarna zelf te oefenen. Ook ga ik een dagboek bijhouden van mijn herstel en het verloop ervan. Het zal alleen wel in het engels zijn, zodat iedereen het kan lezen.

Yesterday night I came back in Holland. Nice flight and by coincidence I was flying together with my F-one team mate, Alex Caizergues, worlds fastest kitesurfer. What a small world!
I went back earlier because I got some problems with my knee again. Last year I broke my cross ligament and I didn’t get an operated. This year I will. The operation is pretty easy but the recover time is long and the rehab is hard work.
The recovery time will be 6 months. So the upcoming six months, no kiting for me. To keep myself busy I will work on some trick moves where you can see all kinds of tricks in slow motion to practise yourself after words. There will be a new website and I will keep a diary of the whole rehab. I will keep a week to week update with the status, what I did and how I feel. The first one is alreeds on-line!

Today (28-11-2007) I went to the Bergman Medical clinic. It’s located in the middle of Holland, Bilthoven, close to Utrecht. It’s a really famous clinic for plastic surgery, they even have there own TV program on the Dutch television. Besides that they are also specialist in all kinds of operations. Also for an ACL reconstruction.
Today I had a meeting with the doctor (L. N. Marting) to speak about my knee, the operation and what they are going to do. They are going to use a piece of my hamstring tendon to replace that with my old cross ligament. The operation will take approximately 90 minutes and the day after I’m going back home. I also got to choose my food already. I could choose out of 10 high class dishes, I choose Tagliatella with Salmon. Hope it’s going to be good! 4th of December I will get operated and after that the real work starts!
